Christopher Beckman, P.E.

Chris earned his BS and MS in Civil Engineering from BYU. His experience with many types of investigation and projects, including unique and challenging conditions such as deep undocumented fills and slope stability, has served AGEC well since 1995. He is a true “sports guy”, especially enjoying soccer, and often spends his free time outdoors and traveling to warm places with his wife, kids, and grandkids.

Arnold DeCastro, P.E.

As a licensed Professional Engineer with a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Wyoming, Arnold has been practicing geotechnical engineering since 1997. He has significant experience dealing with collapsible and expansive soils for the support of structures. He performs forensic studies to evaluate the distress of structures (residences and buildings) related to soil and foundation support issues.  He also performs geotechnical recommendations for residential development/subdivisions, commercial projects, sewer lagoons, embankments/small earth dams, and bridges. In his spare time, he enjoys camping, hunting, fishing, and watching his son play baseball.

Scott Anderson, P.E.

Scott has been a constant at AGEC for more than 31 years and has worked in the laboratory, as a field technician and currently as a senior geotechnical engineer.  He is a graduate of Brigham Young University with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering.  He performs geotechnical investigations for a wide variety of projects, designs retaining walls and has performed seismic analyses for several projects.  Much of his work is in Park City, Summit and Wasatch counties and includes luxury residences and ski resort development.  Scott has completed several triathlons including a 70.3 Ironman in 2017.  He enjoys raising a son and two daughters with his beautiful wife.

Taylor Nordquist, P.E.

Taylor earned his bachelor’s degree from BYU in 2013 and his master’s degree from MIT in 2015. Both of his degrees were in Civil and Environmental Engineering with a Geotechnical focus. While at MIT, Taylor was part of a research team for the UT Geofluids consortium, where he experimentally researched the evolution of mechanical properties of high-stress marine clays.
Taylor started working at AGEC when he was 11, mowing the lawn. He quickly worked his way up as a laboratory and field technician through high school and college and has worked full-time as an engineer since 2015. As a true Utahn, Taylor enjoys anything outdoors – hiking, biking, running, rock climbing, horseback riding, watersports, winter sports, and working on his small horse farm. He especially finds pleasure in boring his wife and kids with geology factoids as they are traipsing through the great outdoors of southern Utah.

Katrina Black, P.E.

Katrina holds a BS and MS in Civil Engineering from Bucknell University. Her experience is extensive with 14 years of environmental engineering, 14 years of geotechnical engineering, and 10 years managing a specialized geotechnical testing laboratory at AGEC since 2013. Curious by nature, she loves learning about the science of water, wellness, and geology. To unwind, you might find Katrina out hiking, cycling, rock climbing, tending to her dogs and chickens, reading, or playing the Native American Flute.

Jacob Erickson, P.E.

As a graduate of Utah State University with a Master of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Jacob has been with AGEC since 2013. He oversees the management and completion of geotechnical investigations for residential subdivisions, multi-family developments, single lots, and commercial developments. In true Utah form, Jake enjoys being outdoors, boating, biking, hiking, and snowboarding with his wife and two beautiful daughters.

Nellie Giles

Nellie grew up in Southern Utah. She graduated from Southern Utah University in 1989 and has been with AGEC since 2005. Handling all the company's invoicing and receivables, she keeps us afloat. When not balancing accounts, she can be found sewing Christmas ornaments or spending time with her two granddaughters.

Johnny Etchemendy

Johnny started with AGEC in 2007 as a field technician and has evolved into an operational role. As our Jack-of-all-trades, his current responsibilities roam between fleet management, office equipment management, primary end-user tech support, special inspector, operational development, backup dispatcher, assistant radiation safety officer, and any miscellaneous company things that need doing. Johnny loves canyoneering in Southern Utah around and inside Zion National Park and multi-day backpacking trips in the Uintas and the Wind Rivers. He is a diehard Real Salt Lake season ticket holder and never misses a home game. As a massive fan of board games, Johnny belongs to a group that meets twice a month to playtest new board games.

Amber Thomas

Amber started as the front desk receptionist in 2022. Her duties included assisting with contracts, setting up new projects, Final Grading reports, and assisting the lab with concrete, asphalt, gradations & proctor paperwork. Amber became the dispatcher/ construction coordinator role in 2023 and loves working with the technicians and contractors. She still assists with her previous duties as needed. You will find Amber in her spare time hanging out with her three kids, being in the sun, and working in the St. George Historic Temple.

Laura Nordquist

Laura has been part of the AGEC team since 2013. She is the administrative glue that holds the office together with her attentive organizational skills. She adores her friends at AGEC and loves the culture of acceptance and appreciation that is a part of her everyday experience. She takes great pride in being the favorite aunt to 15 nieces and nephews and can often be found amongst her horses, knitting, crocheting, spinning, batiking, and generally being crafty.

Ronda Staheli

Ronda joined AGEC in 2008 and quickly became the administrative right hand to many in the office. She diligently assists Jim, the engineers, construction services, the lab, the drillers, accounting, and other members of the support staff with many of their day-to-day needs. Away from the office she enjoys yard work, exercising, biking, and camping. She also enjoys singing and playing the piano. She and her husband live to support their 5 children and 17 grandchildren in all that they do.

Shan Doller

As one of the pioneers for women in the drafting field, Shan started in Civil and Structural Engineering in Durban, South Africa and Seattle WA but ultimately ended up joining AGEC in 2015. She takes great pride in her process of distilling engineering information into a comprehensive deliverable package. When she is not working, Shan loves to read, bake, travel, play board games, and dabble in art with her grandkids.

Jim Nordquist, P.E.

After receiving his B.S. in Civil Engineering from the U of U and his S.M. in Civil Engineering at MIT, Jim began his long-standing career in Denver, Colorado in 1979.  Since then, he has provided geotechnical-related guidance for homes, high-rise buildings, large manufacturing facilities, industrial plants, hospitals, schools, religious buildings (temples, meeting houses, etc.), airports, roadways, homes, landslides, dams, irrigation canals, geologic hazards, bridges, subdivisions, shopping centers, tunnels, and pipelines across the U.S., Mexico, Rome, and the Philippines. Blessed with 48 years of marriage, 6 children, 4 great companions for 4 of our kids, and 15 grandchildren Jim loves to spend time in the mountains, bike riding, boating, horseback riding, and serving in his church calling.

Wayne Rogers, P.E.

Wayne has been a committed fixture amongst the AGEC team since 1996, helping see the company through its first transition to Southern Utah. He graduated from BYU with a Master's Degree and has published research with Dr. Kyle Rollins from the National Science Foundation project about moisture-sensitive or collapsible soils. The paper won Paper of the Year for most relevant or valuable research in 1994. Wayne has worked with a variety of developments including large industrial projects/facilities, resort developments, and several large residential developments across the state of Utah. He loves playing and coaching sports (particularly baseball), gardening, and enjoying the outdoors with his wife of 37 years, 4 adult kids, and 5 young grandsons.

Jay McQuivey, P.E.

Jay graduated from Brigham Young University with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering and has been with the company since 1990. He provides clients with geotechnical studies and consultation during the design and construction of residential, commercial, and institutional buildings; manufacturing facilities; sewer and water treatment facilities, pipelines, and tanks; hazardous waste and municipal landfills; pavement; retaining systems; slopes and embankments. For Jay, stress relief involves working out and staying fit and can be found at the gym during lunchtime. After work, Jay enjoys mountain biking, running, hiking, and skiing with his wife and six children.

Derek Wolfe

Derek comes to us all the way from Litchfield, Connecticut.  Shortly after graduating from BYU with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in civil engineering in 2016, he started his career at AGEC. Most of his time is spent as a field engineer working closely with both the exploration department and the staff engineer group dealing with more unique aspects of engineering observation. Derek is a sport junky through and through. He loves being outdoors and traveling with his wife, Sophie, and his two kids Holland and Juniper.

Joe DeGooyer

Ever since he graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science in 1997, Joe has been an integral part of AGEC. He has held many roles in the firm, and now, as an Environmental Project Manager, he is responsible for field investigations, analysis, and reporting for Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments. He also performs site and soils evaluations and provides designs for on-site wastewater treatment and disposal (septic) systems. When he’s not busy with those tasks, Joe assists the engineering department with site evaluations and excavation observation services, the exploration department with geotechnical investigation services and the CoMit department with materials inspection and testing services. As a father of 2 sons and grandpa of 2 grandsons, Joe prefers to spend his free time with his family on a boat, water skiing, scuba diving, traveling, and being outdoors.

David Nordquist, P.E.

David received his BS in civil engineering from the U of U in 2004. Working within the laboratory, inspection services, field engineering, and engineering, David has been with AGEC since the beginning. Today, David spends most of his time guiding contractors through the geotechnical portions of their projects by applying/interpreting the “soils report” to their real-time conditions. He enjoys helping clients solve their problems as efficiently as possible. Aside from work, David enjoys his time with his wife and three daughters riding his donkey, horse, and mules.  They also enjoy hiking and boating. When he gets time to himself, he prefers running, riding dirt bikes, and working on unnecessary, fun projects.

Tom Atkinson

Thomas received his B.S. in Geography with a Minor in Geology from Northern Arizona University. He has been with AGEC since the beginning in 1990 and has since completed over 2,100 phase I and phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) and environmental sampling investigations all over the state of Utah. With the love and support of his wife and dogs, Thomas is always striving to improve his pickleball skills and attend as many concerts as possible.

Tracy Stout

As a transplant from Plainwell, Michigan, Tracy graduated from Ricks College in 1997. She began her career at AGEC as a Lab Technician in 1998 at the Sandy lab and then moved to Moab where she worked as a lab and field technician in 1999. In 2001, she moved to St George to continue her work as a Field Technician, later as the dispatcher and then Construction Services manager. In her spare time, she loves to be in nature, especially the mountains.

Danielle Gerrard

While earning her Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology from the University of Wyoming, Danielle discovered a love of Mineralogy. She joined the Construction Services team at AGEC team in 2021 where she focuses on utility and roadway improvement tests and reports all while staying up to date with the county on testing requirements and specifications. Living in Southern Utah provides Danielle with many opportunities to continue sparking her fascination with nature’s wonders. When it comes to matters of Geology or life, her advice is the same: If you find a fault, don’t dwell on it.

Mitchell Oldroyd

Mitchell began his career at AGEC in 2012 in the lab with proctors and other soil testing. He later moved into density testing & other fieldwork. He has attended various institutions of apprenticeship & higher education, including The AGC (Associated General Contractors of America), SLCC, and Snow College (Sevier). With a background in concrete construction, Mitchell has a deep knowledge of the contractor's side of the industry. He also performs various handyman projects and improvements to AGEC's infrastructure.

Mitchell loves motorcycle riding, golf, bowling, snow & skateboarding. He enjoys collecting & repairing typewriters, reading, and spending time with his lovely wife & energetic son.

Brian Ranniger

Brian Graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1992 with a BS in Geography. After serving 3 years with the Army Airborne Infantry assigned to NATO in Vicenza, Italy, he started working at AGEC as a field technician in 1996. He went on to become a Special Inspector within a couple of years working on many high-profile projects like the LDS Conference Center in SLC before being promoted to Construction Services Department Manager in our Sandy Office in 2002.

He enjoys raising his two boys, watching one play baseball and the other excel in martial arts, and spending time with family going camping, hiking, traveling, dirt bike riding, skiing, and shooting.

Troy Thode

Troy has been with AGEC since 1999. Starting out as a Field Technician and progressing to larger jobs and more responsibility, he learned to perform Floor Flatness testing and manage jobs for AGEC. He was promoted to Lab Manager in the St. George office in 2005 where his love for the work blossomed. Troy is well trained in ACI, UDOT WAQTC as well as the industry standards ASTM and AASHTO procedures with regards to material testing. Troy loves to spend time with his wife and family, play golf, and visit families as Santa Claus during the Christmas season.
